Track Accessories and Transformers FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions: Track Accessories and Transformers LBL Track Lighting

What accessories do I need to completely install my own track lighting?

If you choose to create your own track lighting system you will need:

  • A track-mono, wall, two-circuit, cable or free jack - lights are installed on a point rather than a rail.
  • Pendant or direction heads
  • Canopy feeds - canopy attached to the ceiling which the track is run through
  • Transformer - to create 12 volt output from a 120 volt electric point, if you want a dimming option be sure to get a transformer which allows for it
  • Adapter - this is thread trough the rail and is where the pendant or directional head is screwed in place
  • Caps - caps slip on the end of the rail for a clean finish to the track

Will I be able to install the track lighting myself?

It is perfectly possible to install track lighting yourself but be sure to do your research ahead of time and if it seems a little more DIY than you are looking for you can always hire an electrician.

Can I purchase accessories from a variety of brands to go on one track?

Although some accessories from different manufacturers may be compatible, it is much easier to purchase everything from the same manufacturer.

Is it more or a hassle to get a low voltage track because it requires a transformer?

Although it does require another accessory, low voltage (12 volt) is a very good choice for track lighting because it saves energy and is safer because of the low electric current. Installing a transformer isn’t too difficult of a project that it should deter you from choosing low voltage over line voltage if it is your preference.

Is there an easier solution to getting all the parts for track lighting than buying them individually?

Track lighting can be purchased in kits which come with everything or if you visit www.LightingUniverse.com you can use a tool which walks you step by step through creating the perfect track lighting system for your needs and adds all required accessories automatically. This shopping tool is currently available from Tech Lighting and LBL Lighting.
